In class we have been learning about Jimmy Carter. Jimmy Carter was the 39th president. Jimmy Carter was born in Archery GA, in 1924. His parents were James Earl Carter and Lillian Carter. Jimmy grew up in a rural area of GA. When he was little his uncle told him tales of the Navy and what it was like to be in it. This inspired him to join. Jimmy joined the Navy at 18. He was a very high rank in the Navy. Later though, his father caught cancer. He had to leave the Navy to become a farmer after his dad died. He was big in the peanut industry. He decided to get into policies, and ran for state senate, later governor and then president. He was president from 1976-1980 and only served one term. He is still alive today and won a noble peace prize. He helps people and is a humanitarian.

Longleaf Pine Poem

People wanted the trees
A long time ago
So they came to chop
And send them down stream
Now they are rare
And one of a kind
So why not protect them
We need some trees in life
They’re special to Georgia
So they’re special to us
